The Smithfield YMCA Dolphins Swim Team trains swimmers from ages 5 - 18 years of age in the area of competitive swimming. The emphasis of the Y’s Swim Team is on teaching the value of competition through teamwork, sportsmanship and doing one’s best.
Our coaches are dedicated to providing all swimmers with a positive and healthy swimming experience. The Competitive Swim Season is a huge commitment by both swimmers and their families, and the YMCA is here to help swimmers fulfill their commitment to their teammates & their school responsibilities.
The Y swim team offers swimmers the opportunity to be on a team, yet swim against your own personal best times as well. The Smithfield Y Dolphins team camaraderie is hard to match and an inspiration to anyone that has seen the team in action at a swim meet! Join the swim team today, for experiences and memories that will last a lifetimes of tomorrows.
All age groups for swim meets are determined by a child’s age as of December 1, 2016.
New swimmers that are unsure of their lane assignment can contact Aquatic Director & Head Coach, Jen Bibeault at 949.2480 ext. 106 to set-up a swim assessment.
Introduction to Swim Team
Introduction to swim team is for beginner swimmers that are able to swim a minimum of 25 yards without floatation. This program is the perfect prelude to the competitive swim team on a much smaller scale.
Introduction to Swim Team will help build swimmers endurance in the pool, while correcting stroke techniques and introduc-ing new strokes, such as, the butterfly.
Spring Swim Team is just around the corner, now is the time to experience what swim team is all about!
Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:00 PM
5 Weeks: 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, 4/19
Junior Dolphins Swim Team
The Junior Dolphins is for swimmers that are still practicing stroke technique & building their endurance. All Junior Dolphins swimmers will join the regular practice times within their age group by January of the season. A Y Swim Team Coach will get in the water with the Junior Dolphins each week to help refine strokes, increase endurance and speed, and encourage the swimmers.
Junior Dolphins cannot wear a floatation device and must be able to swim 25 yards at a time without stopping. Junior Dolphins will attend all swim meets and are considered a part of the official Smithfield YMCA Dolphins Swim Team. The Junior Dolphin practice times will provide swimmers with actual stroke technique and critiquing, in a smaller setting than the full swim team practices. The fee for both swim teams is the same, as the Junior Dolphins will enter regular Dolphin practice times as soon as the Coach deems them ready, and the Junior Dolphins will receive much more personalized attention both inside and outside of the pool!
Practice Schedule: *Swimmer’s practice schedule will vary based on age/ability and what lane a swimmer is assigned. Returning swimmers will receive an email from Head Coach, Jen with their practice times at the end of August. New swimmers will schedule an appointment with Coach Jen to receive their lane assignment and practice times.
Swimmers MUST be members of the Smithfield YMCA.
