Junior Dolphins Competitive Swim Team
The Junior Dolphins Swim Team is designed specifically for children
that are not completely confident, become overwhelmed with full
team practices and/or need additional stroke refinement before
joining the competitive swim team.
Junior Dolphins are still considered members of the Swim Team,
however they will have private practice sessions with only Junior
Dolphin swimmers, each week. These private practices have an
increased coach to swimmer ratio which allows children the
opportunity to become more comfortable and confident before
emerging into regular swim team practice times.
Junior Dolphins will have the opportunity to compete in swim meets
and "Need for Speed" mock meets, with other Smithfield Y Dolphin
swimmers. Swim meets will typically begin in late October, allowing
the swimmers 4 - 5 solid weeks of practice before competing. Meets are not mandatory but they are strongly encouraged. Participating in swim meets will help your swimmer understand what the competitive swim season has to offer.
To join the Junior Dolphins, you must be able to swim at least 25
yards with no flotation device and at least 2 of the 4 strokes;
freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke or butterfly.
For more information on this program please contact Jen Bibeault,
Aquatic Director and Y Dolphin's Head Coach at 949-2480 ext. 16.
**All swimmers must be members of the Smithfield YMCA
**All swimmers must pay a $40 Parent's Club fee upon registering
**All swimmers will pay the balance of the swim team fee once the swimmer transfers to regular practice times.
